The CRISI-ADAPT Kick-Off Meeting was held in Madrid on July 31st. The meeting was a great opportunity for all project partners and stakeholders to meet, put in common initial ideas and define the first steps to be taken.

Climate Risk Information for SupportIng ADAptation Planning and operaTion (CRISI-ADAPT) is a project funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology under the EIT Climate-KIC. The project aims to reduce the impacts of the climate change in strategic sectors of urban areas and critical infrastructures through democratising climate risk information in order to support adaptation planning and forecasting, and monitoring climate impacts though an Early Warning System based on near, seasonal and long range forecast of extreme events. This climate services will allow validating the adaptation measures in a real time implementation.

Project goals were highlighted at the meeting and the leaders of each work package explained their roles and responsibilities. Several topics were also discussed, such as EIT Climate-KIC framework, communication and diffusion management, deliverables and workshop planning, and stakeholder expectations.

The project consortium is formed by the Climate Research Foundation (Fundación para la Investigación del Clima, FIC) and the Fundación Valenciaport (FVP). In addition, the project has the support of two business companies (MeteoGrid and Aquatec) and three city councils: Lisbon (Portugal), San Sebastian (Spain) and Valencia (Spain), including the Port Authority of Valencia and the Port Administration of Lisbon. The project pilot cases will take place in these three cities in order to analyse the problem in real cases, and premises applied to the pilot cases can be assimilated to represent climate features of most of the European territory.

The challenge of the adaptation to climate-related risks is demanded for increasingly closer time horizons and information on potential impacts modelled from near-term climate forecast is important to support adaptation planning and to deal with the main related natural disasters.

Therefore, identified available tools and data will be expanded and transparently used to support the adaptation and risk reduction activities planned by city governments, modellers, investors and different stakeholders that will be involved from the start of the project to ensure that project achieve its goals.
