EIT Climate-KIC Spain, as a member of the Community for Climate Action through the Spanish Platform for Climate Action, has participated in the meeting that the members of this community have held for the first time with the Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, and the Director of the Office of Climate Change, Valvanera Ulargui.
During the meeting, the main actions carried out so far were presented, as well as the initiatives planned for the future. In addition, the meeting has served to discuss the short and medium term needs and support requested from the Ministry.
Teresa Ribera has stressed the importance of implementing the Paris Agreement and the obligation to achieve its results without forgetting the business opportunities that this entails. In order to achieve this, the Minister proposes the challenge of combining quality with sustainability in all areas. Along these lines, Ribera said, Spain is currently in a position of international leadership in the fight against climate change “we must take advantage of it”.
As a result of this Spanish leadership, the new minister has confirmed the invitation that Spain has received to participate in the upcoming World Summit on Climate Action in California, to be held in September 2018, and other key international events such as the New York Climate Week or the Katowice Climate Summit in Poland.
From EIT Climate-KIC Spain, its general director, Jose Luis Muñoz, has emphasized the importance of education, entrepreneurship and innovation as motors to face climate change, as well as the need for collaboration between the actors of the knowledge helix – Research Centres, Universities, Companies, NGOs and public entities. In this regard, Muñoz has placed special emphasis on the involvement of public administrations at national, regional and local levels.
EIT Climate KIC Spain is a member of the Spanish Climate Action Platform, which is also part of the Community for Climate Action. Within the Platform, EIT Climate KIC Spain is a strategic partner for the development of innovation and entrepreneurship in the fight against global warming.
