On the occasion of the International Day for the Environment, and after the participation of EIT Climate-KIC Spain in the Chamber of Commerce of Cantabria in the presentation of the Business Forum on the Circular Economy, a working lunch was held in Santander entitled “Innovation and Climate Change in Cantabria: How to tackle the transition towards a sustainable economy”.

This strategic meeting was attended by high representatives of the Regional and Municipal Government, the University, the innovation ecosystem and the Business sector.

In this meeting, everyone agreed on the suitability of having the support of a European initiative such as EIT Climate-KIC Spain to join efforts in the fight against global warming and work together and collaboratively in climate action.

In this regard, the Director General of EIT Climate-KIC Spain, Jose-Luis Muñoz, said that it is “essential” to share concerns and identify needs, so that through the pyramid of innovation and work together, to seize the opportunities raised by the challenge of climate change in this new socio-technological framework, so as to improve competitiveness in Spain, and create new employment niches.

Muñoz pointed out about EIT Climate-KIC Spain, “we are the bridge that connects companies, the academic and research world and public bodies, in order to identify and create innovative solutions that tackle climate challenges and contribute to the decarbonisation of the economy“.

During the conference, it has also become clear that from the circular economy, and especially the issue of plastics, water and electrical waste, to the impact of climate change on public health, are of special interest for the ecosystem of innovation in Cantabria, where the transfer of knowledge, innovation, the incorporation of technological advances and information and training to citizens and professionals are key elements to address a decarbonization of the economy.

To be able to develop joint strategic lines of climate action that will have an early impact on our society, on future generations and on our planet, has been set as a priority in this forum.
